Hawke's Bay Marathon set to welcome thousands this May

Organisers of the New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Hawke’s Bay Marathon are delighted to confirm that the event on Saturday 14 May 2022 can go ahead as planned.

With today’s Government COVID-19 update announcing that restrictions on outdoor gathering sizes are to be removed from Friday 25 March, Hawke’s Bay is set to welcome thousands of participants to the region for the sixth running of the event.

The Hawke’s Bay Marathon takes in the best highlights of the region, with flat easy running through local cycle trails, quiet country roads and past vineyards and orchards. As with previous years, the finish is situated at the impressive Elephant Hill Estate & Winery where runners and their friends and family can celebrate at the finish-line food and wine festival.

With new and improved Marathon and Half Marathon courses for this year’s event, Hawke’s Bay Marathon Race Director Keegan McCauley is urging those wishing to escape to the coast for a weekend of running, food and wine, to sign up now to secure their spot on the start line in May.

“Today’s Government announcement that outdoor gathering restrictions are being removed is the news we’ve all been waiting for,” said McCauley. “It means we can now prepare full steam ahead for the sixth Hawke’s Bay Marathon and can’t wait to welcome thousands of athletes to the beautiful region for a weekend like no other.

“Between the stunning scenery, vibrant atmosphere and the best of local Hawke’s Bay food and wine, this is a truly festival experience with something for everyone to enjoy.”

The Hawke’s Bay Marathon offers participants four race options, the Marathon, La Roche Posay Half Marathon, Havana Coffee 10km and Kennedy Park Resort Kids Marathon.

The revamped courses will incorporate more of the unique Hawke’s Bay Cycle Trails, allowing runners to take in even more of the region as they cruise through orchards, past vineyards, and along riverheads and the coast.

Entries remain open for the New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Hawke’s Bay Marathon.
