2023 Hawke's Bay Marathon Postponed

Organisers of the New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Hawke’s Bay Marathon have today announced that the 2023 event will be postponed until August.

The Hawke’s Bay Marathon was due to take place on 20 May 2023, but after evaluating the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle within Hawke’s Bay, it was decided the event would be postponed to Saturday 26 August 2023. All registered athletes will receive further details from event organisers.

Keegan McCauley, Race Director of the Hawke’s Bay Marathon, said that the decision was a difficult one to make.

“It has been hard to comprehend the damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle across New Zealand’s North Island last month. It has been especially heart-breaking to see the impacts on the communities in and around Hawke’s Bay who play such amazing hosts to the New Zealand Sotheby's International Realty Hawke’s Bay Marathon,” said McCauley. 

“Which is why, after close consultation with local stakeholders, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2023 event from May to August.

“We really hope athletes and their supporters will be able to join us on Saturday 26 August 2023 for what will be a very special event as we support the recovery efforts as best we can – by spending time and money in the local communities, and celebrating this stunning region,” he said.
