Volunteers are what make an event, and each and every athlete hugely appreciates the amazing work done by our volunteers! We will need heaps of awesome, helpful, energetic, friendly volunteers to be a part of the event too and add to the event experience for everyone. Dates required are to be confirmed

Our volunteer roles vary from pre event setup, to race day support and post event pack down. Check out the descriptions below for further information, and register online using our online volunteer system.

Volunteer Crew Roles

Registration Assistant

Assisting with set-up and running of athlete registration. This could include directing athletes, race number collection, transponder (timing device) checking, race bag pick up. This role is based in the Napier War Memorial Centre.

Site & Branding Assistant

Assisting the branding manager with pre, during and post event infrastructure build and also with sorting and installation of branding & signage. These are active & physical roles.

Info Desk Assistant

The info desk is the initial face of the event for all athletes, volunteers and public. We need friendly people, who enjoy meeting and helping people to ensure they have an awesome event experience.

Athlete Transport Assistant/Bag Drop Collection

Ideal for early birds. This role involves assisting athletes onto correct start line buses. This role is based at each shuttle pick up point. Once all the athletes have departed you will move into the Bag Drop Collection Assistant role, with time for a quick coffee in between!

Bag Drop Collection Assistant

Assisting in the Finish Venue with the organisation and distribution of the athletes bags back to their owners. A great role if you want to work with your friends.

Start Line Assistant

Either pre-event or race day roles. This involves all aspects of set up of each of the three start line infrastructures, branding and signage. This is physical active work. On race day, it's an early start for a very important role, working in a team at one of the three start lines (10km, Half or Full). Roles include assisting with final set-up, signage, info desk, car parking attendants, car/ bus drop off, athlete bag drop and pack down. A great role if you have a group of friends, and all want to be in the same place.

Finish Line & Recovery Assistant

Assisting athletes as they come through the finish, presenting their medal, handing out water and providing support to the athletes.

Aid Station Crew

Based at one of the eleven aid stations on course, you'll be working as a team of volunteers to provide hydration to runners. We suggest you pick a location near to your home for easy transport access. Great role if you have a group of friends and all want to be in the same place.

Course Marshal

Assisting athletes with directions and encouragement on course, keep public safe, provide event information and assist with limiting public being on the course. We suggest you pick a location near to your home for easy transport access. A great role if you want to see the action out on course.

Traffic Marshal

Race day role. You need to be confident supporting our traffic management staff with directing athletes through an intersection/across a road and may involve assisting with holding traffic as they pass.

Prize-Giving Assistant

Assisting with all aspects of prize-giving, including set-up and prize-giving itself, ensuring the process runs smoothly.
